“Sisterqueens” – movie and aftertalk

Documentary film about a feminist Rap project by three sisters.

For four years, Clara Stella Hüneke accompanied the three friends Jamila (9), Rachel (11) and Faseeha (12) in the rap project SISTERQUEENS in Berlin-Wedding. Under the guidance of established rappers like Ebow, they learn the craft of rapping and grow together as a community. The documentary film, which caused a sensation at its premiere at the Munich Film Festival, is a co-production between ZDF Kleines Fernsehspiel and Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. The graduation film is currently nominated for ‘Best Documentary Film’ at the Hessian Cinema and Film Awards.

The three friends Jamila (9), Rachel (11) and Faseeha (12) are part of the rap project ‘Sisterqueens’ in Berlin Wedding. Under the guidance of established female rappers, they learn to celebrate themselves, question social norms and denounce injustice. The observational documentary accompanies the three girls over several years as they take their first steps as young, self-confident artists who, not least, defy gender stereotypes in rap.Clara Stella Hüneke’s graduation film at the Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg provides a deep insight into a project over several years, the importance of which cannot be emphasised enough.

The SISTERQUEENS rap project is a feminist project by the Peira collective in cooperation with various female rappers, MÄDEA and other girls’ centres in Berlin.
